Does anyone know what is involved in a conversion? Is it just a new sign and maybe new carpet? Or do we have to return all of the books before they remodel?
The remodel will include new fixtures, signs, carpet, paint etc.,
and no you will not have to return any product, store set will work around it and it will have to be re-sorted.
To the best of my knowledge (my store hasn't changed but I've heard stories from some who did), the store will most likely remain open during the conversion. Painting and remodel work is done after business hours, often late into the night. If a store is closed, it's usually only for a few days, maybe a week. Resorting sections is often done while the store's open, like much of the Grid 1 conversion was.
How small is too small? I don't think there's a limit; one of the stores changed in Michigan wasn't much bigger than an airport store. Though I'm not sure what the exact criteria for conversion is.
We converted last year. Be ready to work strange long night hours. There are no new fixtures....you work with what you already have, or can get. Call around and see if any stores are closing in your area that have newer fixtures. The extent of "new fixtures" will only include two new tables that will replace the a-frames in your store. The contractors can be nice, but in reality they only know as much as the staff. We learned a lot of things about our store through this rebranding process.

How long will the staff be off work? Anyone know what the criteria is for becoming a Mini-Borders?
