I'm not surprised. I got fired. Usually it's difficult to get fired from Binc, I've been told, but they sure did a good job of firing me for a FIRST offense after they made me feel like a common criminal.
Maybe everyone should start looking for new jobs. Or hope that a company buys them out that doesn't treat the employees like garbage.
Ummm...you didn't know that the company has been on the market for over a year now? With not a single bite as far as I've heard, which is hardly surprising.
The BR card is a last-ditch attempt to drive sales and save a moribund company, imo.
Wow...I'm not AT ALL surprised about this. I'm dealing with a workers comp thing with BINC now, but as soon as that's all squared away I'm going to start looking for a new job. Perhaps with the "major competitor"...I don't want to be part of the glut of Borders employees all looking for new jobs at the same time.
It's appeared in several business magazines periodically, said a former co-worker I met for lunch today, as well as on yahoo.business. Not a rumor...the company's been up for sale for well over a year, s/he said.

As I now live in Alabama, and have for over 2 years, where Borders has no presence, and don't read the magazine that your friend has, no, I didn't know that. I apologize for my ignorance.
The fact the quarterly earning statement had to be revised and resubmitted also seems a little leary to me as well. Borders has nearly been bought and sold before but my understanding was that the negotiations fell apart.
The dumbest thing you can do with layoffs looming (unless you've already got an in somewhere or are so very good at something indispensible at another company) is to quit. Welfare exists for a reason - and you'll get to use it if you're laid off legitimately.
The only person I was aquainted with was the DM in Wisconsin. He seemed to be level headed, respected and well liked. It was a shock to our store manager.

NoCoHo-how do you know that Borders has been on the market for over a year? I have never read or heard about that.

"Up for sale" is a bit misleading. "Hostile takeover" is more accurate.

That said, sorry you got fired, L.B.
What sorts of folks were laid off in the office?
