So here's a question for all of you who know these ropes. I'm a keyholder (part-time 40 hours a week--go figure) at a Waldenbooks in NY. Is it normal that I've been here for over a year and only make 40 cents more than the non-keyholding part-timers? No one on our staff discusses pay, ever. Am I getting screwed?
Sorry to be dense but what does a keyholder do?
Working for one of the superstores we don't have a position called that.
The only people who have keys to the store are managers or supervisors.
We're right underneath assistant manager. we supervise part-timers (non-key carriers), handle deposits, submit payroll, those sorts of things.
Ah, similar to a supervisory position in the big box stores.
Usually there is a 1.50 to 2.00 an hour pay difference from a standard book seller.
Sounds to me like you are getting the short end of the stick.
Thanks Office monkey, although I still wonder what any other walden keyholders out there are making--particularly in NY?
