Summer job.

Hi,

I know Borders Union probably gets quite a few of these threads every once in awhile--you know, the occasional "I'm thinking about applying at Borders...," and what not. Well, my concern does consider the thought as well, but more importantly I'd like to know if it's a smart move to apply when one is a regular customer and two, how physically strenuous is the work at a above-average busy Borders?

I think it'd be a bit strange working at a place the employees have probably seen your face so often, but then again, who knows...

alright, anything helps. thanks.

Do you remember when Walter Benjamin's writings were being rediscovered, and other authors picked up on his ideas about the "Flaneur"? Well that's actually been one of the more distinctive things about working in bookshops, particularly Borders over the last twenty-five years: not a few start out completely on the outside looking in. But a la Benjamin et al: where ultimately is "in"?

wow, that was by far the most distinct answer i've gotten to any replies in awhile. and yes, it was a pleasure to read! :) granted, i love literature and depth myself. thank you keef. i'll look into applying online~once the site reappears.
