The Schedule

We recently at borders store 0340 got a new GM. The old GM made sure to put the schedule up at least 2 weeks in advance (so 2-3 weeks worth of schedules would be up at any one time). He stopped working, and a couple weeks later we got the new GM. Last week, I had TWO DAYS notice as to when I'd work next (I opened on a Sunday and the schedule was put up at closing on Friday night).
She continually will wait until the end of a week to post the next week's schedule.

Story time. One of our supervisors asked about the schedule so she could plan something for the following week. The GM's response was that Borders should be her "#1 priority in life," and that everything else would have to be worked around her time for borders. This supervisor recently gave birth, and her response to the GM was that she has a daughter. That is all I definitely know to the story, but considering things haven't changed, I'd have to say the GM hasn't changed her stance.

My question, now, is this. Is the GM required to give employees a certain amount of time in advance as far as scheduling goes? If not, does my store have a right to be upset because of the change from having 14+ days notice of work to ~2-3?

You have every right to be upset. Not sure what company policy is, but people, no matter how dedicated to their work they are, do have another life. You have a right to plan your life, and know ahead of time. I have known GM's like yours, and one day they will realize how wrong they are....

The very latest it can be posted is Wednesday. I always try to have it done one week ahead but there always seem to be things that make me have the revixe the damned thing. I always find it interesting the way stores handle scheduling. For our store, I usually lay out the basics and a manager reviews it, then we post it.
